Abstract
Description
23rd Annual National Geography Conference on 'Sustainable Development: An Interdisciplinary Approach' sponsored by UGC in the year 2007. Organised by the Geography Department of S.S.Girls' College, Gondia, Maharashtra. Editorial Board consists of Dr (MS) Lalita Roychoudhry and Dr N.K.Bahekar.In these proceedings, only the abstracts were published. The major issues in sustainable development are understanding the available resource base. The secondary, current way of utilising the same in a given socio-economic set-up must be studied. Such studies have been included in the subject geography since the beginning of modern scientific geography. the recent trends show that appraisal, utilisation for management of resources are being studied with an interdisciplinary approach, applying new techniques as remote sensing and GIS, environmental Impact Assessment, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Environmental Management System (EMS), System of Environment and Economic Accounting (SEEA), etc, are essential techniques in the field of sustainable development. As these techniques require an interdisciplinary approach, geographies inherently encompass such intersections, which have contributed significantly to these fields.
