    (S.S.Girls College, Gondia, 2014-10-11) Editors - Dr N.K.Bahekar, Prof. A.B Satpute and Prof. S.S.Rahul
On 11th October 2014, the Department of Political Science held a National Seminar titled "Indian Democracy: Continuity and Change, " sponsored by the University Grants Commission, Pune. The event examined multiple facets of Indian democracy, including its strengths, vulnerabilities, and challenges. It attracted 99 research papers and articles from scholars nationwide, in Marathi, Hindi, and English. Key themes included the caste system and the status of untouchables, emphasising the persistence of caste-based inequalities despite constitutional protections for equality and social justice. The seminar discussed the ongoing marginalization of untouchables and scheduled castes, advocating for affirmative action and reservation policies to improve their representation in democratic institutions. It also highlighted the importance of education and awareness in transforming social attitudes that sustain caste divisions. Other topics covered included the roles of institutions, the effects of globalization and liberalization, governance and development issues, and the influence of civil society and social movements in fostering democracy and social progress. Overall, the seminar acted as a platform for scholars to exchange ideas and debates on Indian democracy, underscoring the importance of ongoing efforts to strengthen and deepen democratic values in India.
