She completed her early education there and later earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College. She moved to the U.S. to work at NASA and continued her education. She joined NASA in 1995 and was selected as an astronaut in 1997. Her first space mission was on the Columbia shuttle in 2003, where she spent 42 days in space. Unfortunately, she died in the space shuttle disaster during her second mission. Posthumously, she was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India, the country's second-highest civilian honour. The book 'Sitaro Se Aage' is a tribute to Kalpana Chawla's life and legacy, inspiring readers to pursue their dreams and never give up on their aspirations.
