The phrase "Ladki nahi dekhte, dahej dekhte hain" translates to "They don't look at the girl, they look at the dowry." It highlights a deeply ingrained social problem where a woman's value is judged by her material wealth rather than her character, education, or skills. From an equality perspective, this practice is unfair and perpetuates gender discrimination. It objectifies women, reducing them to financial assets, and strips away their dignity and equal rights. True equality involves respecting individuals for who they are, not for what they possess. It necessitates a change in mindset—where marriage is rooted in mutual respect, love, and partnership, rather than dowry or material benefits.
